We believe childhood should be filled with curiosity, creativity and joy. Children learn best through meaningful relationships, play and first-hand experiences that allow them to explore, discover, make choices and learn from their mistakes.
Every child is unique. We recognise and celebrate each child’s personality, interests, culture, experiences, strengths and individual support needs. We provide sensitive encouragement and appropriate challenges that help children build confidence, develop independence and become enthusiastic learners.
Warm and trusting relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our practitioners take time to know each child and provide consistent, nurturing care. We listen carefully to children and ensure their voices, feelings and choices are respected.

Our Practice
At Apple Blossom Nursery, our practice brings our ethos and philosophy to life. We provide caring, responsive and purposeful experiences that reflect each child’s interests, development and individual needs.
Building Secure Relationships
Every child has a key person who takes time to understand their personality, interests, communication and care needs. Warm, consistent relationships help children feel safe, develop confidence and become ready to explore and learn.
Learning Through Play
We recognise play as an essential part of children’s learning and development. Children are given time and space to explore, investigate, create, practise new skills and develop their own ideas.
Practitioners join children’s play sensitively. They introduce new language, ask thoughtful questions, model skills and offer appropriate challenges without taking over the child’s experience.
Following Each Child
We observe and listen carefully to children so we can understand what interests them, what they already know and what they may be ready to learn next.
Our planning remains flexible and responsive. We use children’s interests, experiences and developmental needs to provide meaningful learning opportunities rather than expecting every child to complete the same activity.
A Balanced and Purposeful Curriculum
Our curriculum supports all seven areas of learning and development within the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children experience stories, songs, movement, creative activities, sensory exploration, early mathematics, communication opportunities and an understanding of the world around them.
We balance child-led play with carefully planned adult-guided experiences, routines and small-group activities.
Supporting Communication
Communication is promoted throughout the nursery day. Staff model clear language, extend children’s words and ideas and provide plenty of opportunities for conversation.
We use visual prompts, gestures, objects of reference and other communication approaches when these help a child understand, make choices and express their needs.
Supporting Emotional Wellbeing
We understand that behaviour is a form of communication. Practitioners respond calmly and sensitively, helping children recognise their feelings, regulate their emotions and develop positive ways to communicate.
We use clear, consistent and age-appropriate boundaries. Children are never shamed or punished for finding a situation difficult.
Promoting Independence
Children are encouraged to make choices and take an active role in everyday routines. This may include selecting resources, helping at mealtimes, putting on clothing, managing toileting routines, washing their hands and caring for their environment.
Adults provide enough support to help children succeed while allowing them time to try things for themselves.
An Inclusive Approach
We adapt our environment, routines, communication and experiences to help every child participate. Children with SEND or additional needs are supported through individual strategies, achievable outcomes and close partnership with their families.
Where appropriate, we work with other settings, schools and health, SEND or social-care professionals to provide consistent support.
Outdoor Learning
Outdoor play is an important part of our daily practice. Although our playroom is upstairs and our garden is downstairs, outdoor sessions are carefully planned into the routine and usually take place at least twice each day.
The garden provides opportunities for physical development, exploration, investigation, creativity, managed risk and connection with the natural world.
Working With Families
Parents and carers know their children best. We share observations, progress and next steps through everyday conversations, Tapestry, meetings and reports.
We listen to families and value the information they provide. Working together helps us offer consistent care and learning between home and nursery.
Reflective Practice
Our practitioners regularly reflect on the environment, routines, interactions and experiences we provide. We use observations, professional discussion, training and feedback from children and families to continually strengthen our practice.
Our aim is to ensure every child feels safe, valued and included—and has the confidence and curiosity to grow, learn and blossom.
